Driving Across the West Coast

Driving Across the West Coast

For Presidents Day Break, I drove through Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon and Palm Springs.

Las Vegas:

We stayed at the Palazzo in Vegas for 2 nights, on the first night we arrived late but the next day we went to the Hoover Dam and we took a short helicopter ride over Lake Mead. That area was so beautiful, I would definitely recommend it. That night we ate dinner at Mr. Chow, which was also great, my favorite dish there was the Ma Mignon, it is a delicious beef. The next morning we left Vegas.

Grand Canyon:

We drove to the Grand Canyon, as soon as we got there we took a short hike on the Bright Angel Trail until the sun set. That night we ate at El Tovar, it wasn’t great but none of the places to eat there are that good. The night day we went Mule Riding, there are 2 different tours you can take. We took the 2 hour tour just around the rim but you can also go down into the Canyon and sleep there overnight. I was a little nervous for the mule riding because I have never even been horse riding but it was actually a lot fun and a lot easier than I had expected. The mules are trained to stay behind one another so unless they are playing with each other, eating the plants or are startled by something, you really don’t have to worry. After the mule rides we started driving to Palm Springs.

Palm Springs:

My grandparents have a house in Palm Desert so we visited them. We spent 3 days there. We went to the pool a lot and went to the Outlet Malls, the day we went to the Outlet Malls, it was President’s day so there were even better deals than usual. Our last day we drove into Palm Springs and we went to a store called Lindy, it was a really cool store filled with refurbished modern style antiques. After we went to Jakes for lunch, it was okay, I really liked the Coconut cake. Last we went to the Ace Hotel, we went to the Pop-up store by the pool called The Fine Art of Design, it was a vintage clothing shop, they had old purses, shoes and dresses. I loved all their great old designer purses. The actual location is in Palm Desert. That night we went to Mikado for dinner, it is a restaurant were they cook the food at your table right in front of you, I loved the fried rice. The next morning we flew back to New York.
